Our Beliefs
-
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the sole source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is God-breathed, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
-
We believe that God is Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. God is revealed to mankind as unchanging, all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving and ever-present.
-
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. He was miraculously born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life on earth, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
-
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer at least one spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we are to live under His control daily.
-
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and requires all people to surrender to God for salvation.
-
We believe that sin is anything that does not conform to the character and nature of God. It is literally "missing the mark". It is the result of the disobedience committed originally in the Garden of Eden, and has thus spread to all mankind, because we all sin and fall short of the glory of God.
-
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
-
We believe that the true Church (capital "C") is a universal, invisible, living organism to which all true believers belong, and that collectively, it is the “body of Christ”. Jesus is the "head" of this body of believers. The local church (lower-case "c") is a gathering of a specific group of believers, who gather for the purpose of spiritual growth, encouragement, and mutual support. Biblically, this would be like the church in Ephesus, the church in Rome, the church at Lydia's house, or our church in Foristell, MO.
-
We believe God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. In the Bible, God ordained marriage when He said, "Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife, and the two shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24) and then He urged them to "be fruitful and multiply and fill the whole earth". God created Adam and Eve, male and female with the ability to propagate. He created one man and one woman, and from that point forward, every human who has ever been born have been a result (or offspring) of this union between man and woman; God's design for the family.
-
We believe it is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations, to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ through prayer, financial giving, and personal effort.
-
We believe that Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances instituted by Christ to be observed by Christians only. We also believe that the Biblical mode of Baptism is immersion and that participation in the Lord’s Supper should be open to all Christians, but only after a time of careful self-examination.
-
We believe in Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven, His present work as intercessor, the imminent rapture of His Church, a seven-year Tribulation period and His personal, bodily, pre-millennial return.
